People pleasing sucks your energy right out of you… with no energy, worship can be a struggle. Constantly apologizing sometimes for just existing. Having to say, “I’m sorry” for saying “I’m sorry” because true friends aren’t going to allow you to apologize for being yourself, for needing to take care of you, for wanting to bond.
Often times, I battle with the thought and aching feeling that I’m a burden. It’s been a long time since someone else’s words or actions lead me to believe that but the pain still lingers and flashbacks can cause you to go back to that place of feeling less than…of feeling the need to apologize.
There’s a difference in seeking forgiveness when you’ve wronged someone, made a mistake, or sinned against God vs saying “I’m sorry” to make others more comfortable being around you.
David was a man after God’s own heart. In his worship he was undignified, extravagant, boisterous in the best way, and most of all unapologetic!
We are called to worship that way!
Emptying yourself in worship and prayer, welcoming the Holy Spirit to fill you back up! From shouts of praise to whispers of reverence and awe, God hears and sees you! He knows you and knows your heart! So dance, cheer, clap, cry, however you choose to worship Jesus… you are right!
Don’t hide your joy! Others need the light you’ve been given, so let it shine!
Proudly express your love and gratitude to our Heavenly Father!
Be the example of what it means to pour out your heart in bringing glory to God! Don’t you dare stifle the song inside!
One of my favorite memories when I was in youth group was when we came back from church camp and I was able to help lead worship one Sunday morning alongside my friends and fellow youths. We chose a song from camp “Undignified” by David Crowder Band and took it to heart! If my memory serves me correctly, we each took off skipping, dancing, jogging, and any other motion you can think of all around the congregation. We had to be reined in and weren’t allowed to do that song anymore which for safety purposes I totally understood.
BUT THE JOY! We were a united front just spreading the joy and love we felt to everyone in the congregation that day! I had a blast!
We are called to do the same to everyone we encounter! So don’t be shy, sing praises while you skip around your workplace, down the street and even around your home! Be so excited to praise the Lord your God that you can’t contain yourselves! Be the light you were created to be in the name of Jesus!
“And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams’ horns.”
2 Samuel 6:14-15 NLT
