I used to write poetry on a regular basis. It has been a while since poetry has flowed naturally. I was at a work conference this past weekend. The last night, before I headed home, I went to God to reflect on the blessings from the weekend that were a result from blessings over the past year. In my hotel room, there was an interesting wall decoration of multiple mirrors. While I was praying, I looked at the mirrors hanging on the wall. The thought came to me how we look in the mirror, and often don’t think positive things about ourselves. I have often asked God to help me see myself the way he sees me and have prayed that over my loved ones as well. I felt the overwhelming urge to write. So, I did.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall…
I’ve heard your shouts and mocking call.
You want to break me before I can break you.
You shimmer and shine with hopes I don’t get a clue.
Being trapped in this “fun house”isn’t fun for me.
Each mirror is different, the way out, I cannot see.
My reflection appears when I look at you,
But I keep praying the lies I hear just aren’t true.
I’m lost, confused, dealing with so many pains.
But God finds me to remind me the blood of Christ has washed away my stains
I choose Jesus who has set me free
And forevermore he lives in me.
Holy Spirit lead me to the truth of who you say I am.
May I never forget my Savior is the Holy Lamb.
He is also the Lion of Judah and the King of Kings.
I may see what’s behind me but only he knows what the future brings.
So Mirror, Mirror I’m done with all the hurt and shame
For God the Father calls me by name!
From now on, I look at you and see who God created me to be.
A chosen, loved, and priceless masterpiece.
I seek God’s face
And I am greeted with grace.
No longer will I look at you and turn away
Because I only see the One who gives me strength for another day.
God, you are so good and you always provide.
I no longer feel the urge to run and hide.
Blessings abound when I trust in you Lord.
The price you paid I could never afford.
My identity is sealed with your relentless love.
God, you are faithful always sending us that morning dove.
May I remember whose I am and all he wills for my life
So that I won’t fall victim to the trials and strife.
God, you are with me at every turn.
As I go on this journey, I continue to learn.
Learn from the times your mercy has been shown
Remembering you carefully crafted every person with each stitch you’ve sewn.
So the mirror has no hold on how I see myself.
No longer will I collect dust with God’s Word sitting on the shelf.
For God is moving in my midst.
So when the enemy attacks, I have the power to resist!
The next morning, I saw that the YouVersion Verse of the Day was Ephesians 2:10, which not only is one of my favorite verses but was a part of the above poem. I decided to create this image with the verse and the mirror decoration from the hotel room:

Three reflections to remember:
1. Reflect on the blessings from the day.
2. Reflect on who God says you are.
3. Reflect God’s love and image to those around you!
No longer let the enemy win over your heart and mind. Defeat his lies with the truth that you are loved, chosen, forgiven, and never alone!

This was a beautiful poem and an even beautiful reminder! Keep sharing your heart and what the Lord is teaching you! You are a blessing!!
