My grandmother used to sew EVERY day. She had a whole room dedicated to sewing machines, fabrics, thread on spools covering 2 of the 4 walls. I spent a lot of time as a child in her sewing room. There wasn’t much I didn’t watch her make over the years! All the planning, measuring, cutting, piecing together, threading machines, actually sewing, surging, and depending on the creation, stuffing! She made me many outfits over the years! I have photos of me wearing vests with my name and a design embroidered on them with matching pants at an early age.
When I was about 4 years old, she made stuffed turtles with multiple patterned and colored fabrics pieced together, layered on the turtles’ backs as their shells. She didn’t stick to typical colors for her turtles either. I probably couldn’t count the number of turtles she created over the years. She used to give them as gifts. I’m sure, out of all the turtles created, there were at least a few rips and tears. While I don’t remember causing any harm to the turtles she made me, I know that if I had that she would be able to fix them. She took so much care into making these unique gifts. My grandmother cared for me as her own as well. I owe so much to her and my grandfather for all they did to raise me.
God is the Creator of ALL! He’s sewn each part of us together all unique yet all to reflect his image! We were made for a purpose. We are not here by accident or mistake. He created us to grow,, explore, and love!
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
Psalms 139:13 NLT
God wants us to come to him with everything. Imagine this, you’re a young child and your favorite teddy bear has been ripped. You can see white stuffing poking out where the fur was whole before. You run up to the person, perhaps your grandma, who you know can repair your favorite toy. You ask them with tear filled eyes, “Can you fix this?”
Now imagine you’re older, you come running up to God in the same way, asking the same question, “Can you fix this?” Except this time, you’re holding up the pieces of your shattered heart. Of course, God being the ultimate healer will gently and lovingly put those pieces right back together, good as new. When you trust God with your life, that’s what you’re blessed with…a NEW heart!
Even if you’ve been a believer for a long time, and even if you don’t stray from the faith, the world is going to try and break you. BUT when you know your identity as a Child of God, you know who you can run to crying for help. God can and will mend your wounds and broken parts.
What really gets difficult in life is knowing when to let go of the things that are no longer meant to be sewn back together. In order to have something greater and experience all the wonderful things God has in store, you need to fight the battle of flesh and faith. When you walk into a battle, you are taking a leap of faith. I’ve been faced with this choice many times. I get through these decisions by remembering God’s faithfulness. I’m able to move forward trusting wholeheartedly that he hasn’t and will never let me down!

In the picture above, Jesus is kneeling down speaking with a little girl. Jesus is holding a larger teddy bear behind his back where the little girl cannot see it quite yet. She’s shown clinging on to this small raggedy teddy bear because she “loves it.” There has been more than one occasion where I loved someone or the idea of something happening and struggled to let go. I praise God for all the times he’s had something better waiting on me and I took that first step of leaving whatever it was behind to follow him.
Inspiration for this post came from the song, “Run to the Father” by Cody Carnes (Listen Below).:
The song mentions needing and later finding his heart a surgeon and his soul a friend. We too can run to the Father seeking these characteristics and be overwhelmed at the amount of love God has to pour out to each of us!
God created each and every part of us. We have been known by him from before our very beginnings on this earth! He sees us, knows us, and heals us! We can put our trust in him!
“My heart has been in your sights long before my first breath. Running into your arms is like running to life from death.”
If you’ve never approached God, yet you’re even the slightest bit interested in all this love and strength he offers to bring you hope and joy, what are you waiting for? Run to him! He is waiting with open arms, calling to you with a plan far better than you can ever imagine for your life!
